This 'dance' being the one we occasionally find ourselves lost in, in those moments when perhaps lost in the rhythm of an enfolding piece of music or when looking carefully at something as we draw it, we inhabit the moment rather than regard it as something for disinterested contemplation. In the book 'Everywhen: The Eternal Present in Indigenous Art from Australia', by Skerritt, Perkins, Myers, and Khandekar, we are introduced to the idea of the 'ever-present', time being something that is bent into a loop, old things being interwoven with new ones in an endless cycle. But there are other aesthetic traditions where art forms engage with the world as part of life. Kant's aesthetic idea of 'disinterested interest' is an idea that allows us to stand back from the art we make in order to contemplate it, and it stands at the centre of the history of European aesthetic discourse. We are embedded into our world and the concept of an art form that is separate from the culture we inhabit is a very strange one. In aesthetics the term 'gesamtkunstwerk' is used to refer to a total work of art, something that encompasses a range of approaches rather than just one media. This is art as total culture, not unlike what happens elsewhere and else-when throughout history. Try and picture in your mind jazz playing, the dancers trying to zig-zag their bodies in an accompanying visual rhythm, in a room with a zig-zag floor and with zig-zag art Deco decoration and people's speech patterns being inflected by cool jazz type syncopation. She invites us to look down into this crack, and to confront discomforting truths about our world, truths that are at the moment coming home to roost. It is one of those differences that gives people the power to judge, to reject others or to kill them.įor Salcedo, the crack represents a history of racism, running parallel to the history of modernity of the divide between the rich and poor, northern and southern hemispheres. A shibboleth is any custom or tradition, usually a choice of phrasing or even a single word, that distinguishes one group of people from another. T heir language did not include a 'sh' sound, so if they couldn't say the word, they were executed. In order to check they were of the Ephraimites tribe, every person was asked to pronounce the word, 'shibboleth'. The crack in the floor of Tate modern by Doris Salcedo, entitled 'Shibboleth' refers to the Biblical tribe the Ephraimites, who when attempting to flee their persecutors across the river Jordan were captured by their enemies, the Gileadites. This effect it has been theorised, is why cave painters produced both abstract forms and representational ones and most importantly mixed them together. There is a further stage to this effect, as time goes on and there is no relief from the dark, the mind begins to 'see' other more recognisable things and abstract amorphous forms gradually take on animal or human like shapes. A “light show” in the mind gradually emerges out of the blackness, and often begins with abstract zig-zags and dots. “Prisoner’s Cinema”, an effect that occurs when you are in darkness for a long time, is another example. Normally there are too many interesting things going on for the brain to be bothered with these insignificant visual events. These phenomena only come into vision when you are faced with a plain background such as a white wall or a clear sky. Another way to get the brain to 'see' a zig-zag is to apply pressure to your closed eyes and this generates a phosphene, perceived as veiny or zig-zag-like lines. One zig-zag form in particular is called the “Purkinje Tree”, this is when you see your eye's blood vessels when light shines into the pupil from an unexpected angle. The zig-zag you see being your brain's attempt to decode your own eye's movements as it tries to 'see' something. Another reason is that floating coagulations of vitreous jelly can drift through the interior of the eyes and you sometimes see them or if not these 'floaters' themselves, traces of their movement, as your eye attempts to focus on them. One of the reasons that we see entoptic images is because of the movement of white blood cells in capillaries in front of the retina. The eyes operate in such a way that they are also looking at our inner selves at the same time, but we tend to forget that. We sometimes forget how much a part of the body the eye is, it cant be separated out from the way blood circulates or the nervous system works, but we tend to think of our eyes as being a sort of window through which we perceive the world, rather than a working organ that like all our other organs is integrated into the rest of the body. Zig-zag patterns alongside dots and other abstract shapes, can be 'seen' because of the fact that eyes are embedded into your body.

It was a huge opportunity for us to branch out.” “Removing the Tom Clancy name opens up a whole swathe of opportunities for us to hit up other IPs like Watch Dogs. She also said that the game is a love letter to Ubisoft’s biggest franchises, especially since it has doffed the Tom Clancy branding. Smith couldn’t confirm any future factions, but she did add that the company is also adding other things from Ubisoft’s franchises via in-game maps. “It’s about being open and looking at it from a full picture… We’ve already made really big changes to the game based on player feedback, and hopefully we continue to.” She said that, at the moment, the developer is planning to fix the game’s basics based on player feedback. Naturally, we asked Smith about XDefiant’s future plans. “The reception has inspired our team to continue improving the game, which will be our focus from now to launch and beyond.” And for a lot of players, XDefiant brought a lot of nostalgia, which is something you don’t typically say about a new IP,” said Price. “We wanted to create a game that had that old-school arcade-style feeling. Patrick “Aches” Price said in a post mortem post that the community was finding new and interesting ways to play, and that the popularity of certain factions was greater than what the company had expected. Smith said, “Looking at all the different IPs that Ubisoft has, I think it made sense to us: ‘What if we took the Cleaners from The Division and gave them a flamethrower ultra?’ Once we looked at it in that holistic way, that’s how it came together.” XDefiant’s futureĭuring the closed beta, Ubisoft iterated on the game in response to player feedback, with new fixes rolling out for the issues constantly. Splinter Cell, Far Cry and The Division are some of franchises represented. XDefiant’s primary conceit is that it’s a crossover between some of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises. Now, especially with us being a free-to-play, more in that games-as-a-service environment, we have the opportunity to do that now.” That’s something that games we’ve worked on in the past haven’t really gotten to take advantage of - because in the past it’s been that yearly iteration timeline. “We knew we wanted to make a 6v6 arena shooter that depended on and evolved on player feedback. Smith told GamesBeat that Ubisoft intended to make a shooter that could take advantage of player feedback more directly. GamesBeat got a chance to speak with CeeCee Smith, XDefiant’s director of live operations, on how the game took shape during its development cycle. The company recently added the title to its 2023-24 fiscal year release schedule, meaning it is likely to release in the next few months. Īfter flying low on the radar for some time, Ubisoft’s XDefiant has emerged as one of its promising new games. I told the sales person that I wanted to buy the vehicle, after we negotiated on a price. I show up to the dealeship, test drive the vehicle and I really like it. He informed me that I could in fact test drive the vehicle and I informed him that I was on my way, within an hour. I called and spoke to the sales Manager Richard Mylinski. Fast forward to Monday, August 15th, I receive an email that the vehicle is still available. I informed Bernadette that I did not need to be financed with their bank, as I was already pre-approved with my credit union. Prior to that the salesperson Bernadette Pinder informed me that if I wasn't a cash buyer that I couldn't buy the vehicle because it was too old (2013) and had too many miles (99,000) to be financed with their banks. However, when I arrived I asked if I could test drive the vehicle and I was told that the vehicle needed some sort of "sensor" and I would not be able to test drive. Granted when I got there it was pretty close to closing time. I went into the dealership to test drive a 2013 Land Rover LR4 HSE LUX. My horrifying experience started on Saturday, August 13th. In fact Al Packer has been the only place that I let work on my vehicle since I purchased it and I know there are many options and places to go but I choose here. My truck has been running great since I had picked it back up from the Quik-Lane and the Dealership. This kudos is way overdue for him and the work he had on my truck and I can't thank him enough. It's never any fun when your vehicle is broken, but when it is - I think Al Packer, and then I think 'Randy will fix it'. Service techs, sales reps, office staff alike all who pass through the waiting area, maybe just to get a cup of coffee, will say hello. Everyone on the Al Packer team is pleasant, smiling, and happy to see you. They took particularly good care of me a few months ago as I had several repairs which took some time. He always looks to give me the best service at the best value. Randy and his staff have always provided me with outstanding customer service and he always lets me know he appreciates me being an Al Packer customer. For many years Randy Siegman was my Service Advisor and always gave me excellent service. They have kept my black 2005 Ford F-150 running in tip top shape which I am extremely grateful. They have taken great care of both me and my truck over the years with professional and courteous service. I HOPE THE NEXT CUSTOMER IS NOT MET WITH TROLLS, SNOBS AND PEOPLE WHO HUMILIATE THEM.I have been an Al Packer customer for many years and I have never disappointed. Justin: "lol sorry Mr.XXXX this might not be the PERFECT AUTO (name of my dealership) for you :)" Then he trolls me and finds my company information and name on the internet and sends me a final message Justin: "IM NOT EVEN GIVING YOU THE OPTION TO PURCHASE THE CAR ANYMORE, CALL FORD AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY" I told him I am both (end user and dealer by profession), I want the car titled to my business Told him that I was a Georgia dealer and wanted to buy truck for myself and register to my dealership so I would be considered tax exempt, he insists that his dealership only sells to end users and not to other dealers. "Will sell you the car for 74238+699 dealer fee+199 electronic filing fee+6.50 fl tire fee + tax" Texts the next day and confirms my offer of 72500 and then disappear with no answer until 6:00pmĬalled the dealership when they wont reply to the text, and tell another salesman the whole conversation and the offer of 72500īilly: (Laughing) "I will tell him (Justin) to call you but he probably wont with offers like that" Justin: "You could turn around and sell the truck for 12000-15000 more at the auction" later on "will call you tomorrow afternoon" Justin: "That truck is already discounted, and you are making a crazy offer at 70k?" Date 07/10/23: Contacted them thru text for a truck listed on for 75238.00Īnd here are some excerpt's from the conversation: Once the holes have been covered up though, we recommend hanging our traps directly over any carpenter bee nests that are plugged up. If you place a carpenter bee trap by an existing nest the carpenter bee male will make your trap highly ineffective. Carpenter bees are highly territorial and will chase away other carpenter bees from the area they nest in. If you have an existing carpenter bee infestation, we recommend plugging up the holes before hanging the trap. Because carpenter bees are relatively predictable creatures, we can determine the best location for the traps before they start making holes in your home. As larvae and pupae, the offspring remain in the nests inside their brood chambers, which protect them until they develop into adults and can fly and feed on their own 5.Trap placement depends on your current situation. Once the adult female and male have finished their task of creating offspring and protecting them in the nests, the adult parents will naturally die inside the nest. Galleries as long as ten feet have been found 4. The inner tunnel chambers are quite elaborate, as the female carpenter bee may build on a previous season’s nest. Into the summer months the carpenter bees continue to build their nests and produce their young. The female will spend all of her time in the construction of the nest and producing the young. If you have ever noticed a carpenter bee dive-bombing your head when you’ve gotten close to a nest, it is without a doubt the male. The male carpenter bee’s sole job is to protect their staked-out territory from other carpenter bees and predators. A typical gallery is about four to six inches long 3. She will pick the spot and carve out the entire nest tunnel and create a “gallery” to lay eggs using her mandibles, the female carpenter bee spends about six days to “drill” about an inch. The female is the lead engineer in this endeavor. Once the wood bees have found their mate and round up their needed nourishment, it is time for nest construction. At the most, one nest will house a few carpenter bee siblings. Typically a carpenter bee male and carpenter bee female will create their own nest together. Carpenter bees are solitary bees, so while several young adults may emerge from the same nest, this does not mean they will continue to live together. During this time they gather food and search for the male or female they will nest with. When the carpenter bees first emerge, they generally mate within a few weeks 2. This is the time when the Best Bee Trap should be hung up around your home. To avoid the guessing game, you should anticipate the wood bees as soon as the weather turns from winter to spring. Depending on where you live, it can be as early as late February for the southern states and as late as the end of May for northern states. Being proactive to their arrival, rather than reactive to the destruction, is the key to carpenter bee treatment.Īfter hibernation, adult carpenter bees emerge from their nests in the springtime 1. Why should you understand the life cycle of a carpenter bee? The most important step to prevent carpenter bees from nesting in your home is being aware of when their season starts. offers highly precise local weather forecasts around the world, thanks to the Hybrid Forecasting Technology (HFT). While having the tremendous advantages of temporal and spatial completeness, these reconstructions: (1) are based on computer models that may have model-based errors, (2) are coarsely sampled on a 50 km grid and are therefore unable to reconstruct the local variations of many microclimates, and (3) have particular difficulty with the weather in some coastal areas, especially small islands.
